Rowdies Notes
Tampa Bay hasn’t been in its best form recently, but still sits in second place in the USL’s Eastern Conference with 22 points, two points off the pace set by the Charleston Battery.
The Rowdies fought back from behind to pick up a point with a 2-2 draw on the road against the Charlotte Independence on Sunday night. Georgi Hristov put Tampa Bay ahead in the first half with a penalty kick, but the Rowdies conceded twice in five minutes early in the second half to fall behind. Keith Savage entered the match off the bench and scored the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute to help the Rowdies avoid defeat.
Tampa Bay will be without its leading scorer in this match as Georgi Hristov will serve a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation. Hristov has six goals this year. It will be the third-consecutive match in which the Rowdies have a player suspended for yellow card accumulation, following Damion Lowe and Darnell King’s recent absences.
After an action-packed schedule through May and the first week of June, this match comes after nearly a full weeks’ rest. The Rowdies haven’t had a week’s rest since their match against Louisville City FC on May 13, seven matches ago.
The Rowdies have been mostly a second-half team this year, with 12 of their 19 goals coming after halftime.
Having played four of its last five matches on the road, Tampa Bay will be happy to return home to Al Lang, where the Rowdies have posted a 5-1-1 record this season.
Scouting the Rhinos
Rochester comes to Tampa Bay having played the fewest matches in the USL’s Eastern Conference, along with the Charlotte Independence. The Rhinos have only played nine league matches this season, compared to 13 for the Rowdies.
Rochester will enter the match with confidence, having beaten the Rowdies 1-0 just a few weeks ago on May 24. In fact, Rochester is 3-0-0 all-time against the Rowdies, though prior to the May 24 match, the teams hadn’t met since 2010.
Wal Fall is the Rhinos’ leading scorer this season with three goals, including scoring the game-winner in the last meeting between these teams.
