
ST PETERSBURG, FL – This April, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup returns to Al Lang Stadium for the first time since 2019.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies are set to host the winner of the Open Cup match between the Villages SC and Orlando FC Wolves. The Villages are set to host that match on Tuesday, March 22. The Rowdies will then welcome the winner on Tuesday, April 5, with kickoff set for 7:30pm ET.
Twenty-three Division II and 23 Division III professional teams will see their first tournament action, joining the 16 First Round winners in a week that will feature a modern record of 31 matches in a single round.
Now in its 107th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has crowned a champion every since 1914, apart from 2020 and 2021 when the storied tournament was cancelled due the global COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. This year’s Open Cup winner will receive $300,000 in prize money, a berth in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy – one of the oldest nationally-contested trophies in American team sports.
ESPN+ will be the home for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2022, with the broadcast schedule to be announced at a later date.
