ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – On Monday, the Tampa Bay Rowdies announced that goalkeeper Phil Breno has signed a new contract to remain with the club. The contract is pending league and federation approval.
Breno appeared in four matches for the Rowdies during the 2023 USL Championship season, recording 12 saves in his time in net. He first joined the Rowdies on loan from Forward Madison FC midway through the 2022 season and took over as starter for the final months of the year.
The 28-year-old keeper became the hero for the Rowdies in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinal that season with a dramatic penalty stop in stoppage time to send the Rowdies to the third straight conference final. The Rowdies then secured Breno as a full-time player with a one-year contract in the offseason.
After splitting his college career between the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the College of William & Mary, Breno began his professional career with the Charleston Battery in 2019. In 2021, he made the move to USL League One side Forward Madison, where he made 41 appearances across all competitions before his loan to Tampa Bay.
