Harrisburg City Islanders: 6-6-13 (W-T-L), 24 points, 13th place
Tampa Bay: 10-8-6 (W-T-L), 38 points, 5th place
The Tampa Bay Rowdies are coming off a 4-2 road loss to New York Red Bulls II on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey. The Rowdies fell behind early, but equalized quickly. New York then scored twice to take a 3-1 lead before the Rowdies scored in the 77th minute to close the gap. New York scored in the 83rd minute to seal the three points.
Tampa Bay returned home following that match for a few days of training at home before returning to Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon for the matches in Harrisburg on Wednesday and Bethlehem on Saturday. The team will not return home between matches.
Rowdies center back Hunter Gorskie made his club debut in the loss at New York and scored a goal on his Tampa Bay debut. That match also featured a return to action for midfielder Joe Cole, who had been sidelined for nearly a month by a back injury sustained against Harrisburg on August 5.
While Tampa Bay boasts a strong home record this season, the Rowdies haven’t been great on the road this season, winning just once in 12 matches away from St. Petersburg in 2017. In the last three seasons, the Rowdies are just 5-16-21 (W-T-L) on the road.
Most of the problems on the road have come from Tampa Bay’s leaky defense. In 13 matches at home, Tampa Bay has conceded just six goals. In 12 matches away from St. Petersburg, the Rowdies have conceded 21 goals, including four in each of their last two road matches, losses in Saint Louis and New York.
The City Islanders are near the bottom of the USL’s Eastern Conference standings as they’re mired in a seven-game winless streak. Harrisburg has lost each of its last four matches by a combined score of 12-0. The City Islanders haven’t scored a goal since July 18, coming into this match having played 585 minutes without a goal.
With just 18 goals this season, Harrisburg is the lowest-scoring team in either conference. Paul Wilson leads the team with three goals.
Harrisburg is 4-4-3 (W-T-L) in home matches at FNB Field this season. FNB Field is located on City Island, an island in the Susquehanna River from which the club draws its name.
