Rowdies Expand Roster with Addition of Jamaican Midfielder Ricardo Morris
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (July 25, 2014) — The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced today the addition of Jamaican midfielder Ricardo Morris. Per club and league policy, contract details will not be disclosed.
Morris, 21, most recently played for Portmore United FC in the Jamaican Red Stripe Premier League. Morris joined Portmore United in 2011 and has made 65 appearances. Morris has also played for the Jamaican U-20 and U-23 teams and made his senior international debut in a 2-0 friendly win over Barbados on March 3. He has two senior caps.
Morris joined the Rowdies as a trialist during the midseason NASL break and played against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in a friendly on July 4 and again against Orlando City on July 6. In the win over the Strikers, he provided an assist after connecting with forward Casey Townsend on a long diagonal ball in the first half. He also fed Georgi Hristov for a goal in the Orlando City match.
“We are very pleased to have signed Ricardo,” Rowdies General Manager Perry Van Der Beck said. “Although he is young, he is mature technically and has the ability to create opportunities. He impressed us with his performance during the last two exhibition games with an assist in each. We expect him to continue to contribute throughout the second half of the season.”
Join us this Saturday at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Pete as we battle for first place against the league leaders San Antonio Scorpions. There will be 2-for-1 Bud and Bud Light draughts from the time gates open (6:00 p.m.) until 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets call (877) ROWDIES or click here .
