FC Tampa Bay and FC Edmonton meet for the third time this season with FCTB trailing the season series 0-1-1. The teams played to a 1-1 draw on May 11 in St. Petersburg when FC Edmonton midfielder Chris Kooy scored in sec-ond half stoppage time to earn a point for his club. FCTB midfielder Chad Burt had given his team a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the year in the 51st minute.
In the most recent meeting, FC Edmonton routed FC Tampa Bay 4-0 on May 31 at Foote Field. FC Edmonton scored two goals in each half, handing FCTB its worst loss of the year. FC Tampa Bay lost three starters to injury during the match as forward Warren Ukah exited with a gash to his head and midfielder Chad Burt left with a foot injury in the first 35 minutes. Defender JP Rodri-gues, who had played in every minute of the first eight matches, limped off the pitch with a knee injury with about 15 minutes remaining in the game.
Notes:
FC Tampa Bay knocked off the English Premier League Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Thursday night in an international friendly at Al Lang Stadium. In league play, FC Tampa Bay is unbeaten in its last three matches, including a 1-1 draw at Puerto Rico last Saturday night.
FC Edmonton, which is undefeated in its last three at home, tied first-place Carolina 1-1 Wednesday night at Foote Field. Forward Kyle Porter and midfielder Shaun Saiko share the team’s goal scoring lead with five. Saiko also leads the team with three assists on the season.
Injury Updates:
Midfielder Chad Burt (foot) is doubtful for the match, while midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake (hamstring) and midfielder/defender Takuya Yamada (groin) are questionable for the game. Burt has missed the last six league matches, while Yamada has been sidelined for three of the last four NASL contests. Yoshitake was injured last Saturday at Puerto Rico and had to leave the game in the 12th minute.
