FC Tampa Bay President and Owner Andrew Nestor joined local civic leaders in a refueling mission with the 927th Air Refueling Wing from MacDill Air Force Base aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker above the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday morning.
The KC-135 has provided the core aerial refueling capability for the United States Air Force for more than 50 years; its missions include in-flight air refueling, airlifting cargo and passengers, aeromedical evacuations, and supporting humanitarian operations worldwide.
“The mission itself was an incredible experience and involved inflight refueling of six F-15’s. It was really interesting to learn about the crucial roles and expertise of each crew member and see them and the F-15’s in action,” said Nestor. “I also enjoyed spending time with the MacDill personnel after the mission, particularly Captain Shane Huff and our mission pilot Danny Menashi. Having the opportunity to get to know them, the other members of the crew, and Colonel David Pavey whom I met last year, gives me a whole new appreciation for our military and the sacrifices they make for our country everyday.”
The refueling mission provided a unique opportunity for Nestor and the others to see the work of our servicemen and women first hand. Nestor and his fellow civic leaders were met and welcomed by Colonel Thom Pemberton, SSgt Shawn Rhodes and Major Nate Diaz. The day’s agenda included touring the 927th Air Refueling Wing and seeing an in-flight refueling mission first hand.
