FC Tampa Bay goalkeeper Daryl Sattler suffered a torn ACL in his right knee Saturday night against Atlanta and will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2011 season.
“My thoughts are with Daryl and we are all very disappointed for him,” said head coach Ricky Hill. “I have only known Daryl for a short time, but I know he is a first class person as well as an outstanding goalkeeper. We will miss him and hope that he makes a speedy recovery.”
Sattler sustained the injury during a collision in the 10th minute against the Silverbacks and was replaced by rookie Jeff Attinella, who made his professional debut in the 1-1 draw with Atlanta. Attinella, a native of Clearwater who played collegiately at the University of South Florida from 2007-10, made three saves and allowed just one goal against the Silverbacks.
Sattler started each of the first four games for the team and posted two shutouts, both against the Montreal Impact. He was named North American Soccer League Defender of the Week following FC Tampa Bay’s 0-0 tie at Montreal in Week Three. Last season, Sattler started 24 of 30 games for FC Tampa Bay and notched four shutouts along with a goals against average of 1.42.
