FCTB went 1-1-2 against the Islanders last year.
What’s at Stake:
FC Tampa Bay’s second match of the 2011 season comes against the 2010 League Champion Puerto Rico Islanders. This will be the first of four games against Puerto Rico this season. Last season FCTB went 1-1-2 against the Islanders. FCTB won 2-1 in the first meeting on May 29 at home with one of the goals from returning forward Aaron King.
The next meeting was a 1-0 loss at Puerto Rico on June 19 with the goal from Islander forward David Foley. The last two matches were 0-0 and 1-1 draws on July 15 and August 11, respectively.
Individual Notes:
FC Tampa Bay started the 2011 season with a 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact, who are headed to Major League Soccer in 2012. The goal came from Takuya Yamada in the 85th minute. FCTB goalkeeper Daryl Sattler posted the shutout with eight saves against Montreal. FCTB went 0-2 against Montreal in the 2010 season.
Puerto Rico is coming off a road win against the Carolina RailHawks in its season opener last week. The match was delayed because of rain but that did not stop the Islanders from coming out with the 2-1 win. Puerto Rico’s goals came from Joshua Hansen in the 32nd minute, with Jay Needham scoring the game-winner in the 93rd minute.
Andres Arango will sit out his second of two matches this season because of a red card in his final postseason match with Minnesota in 2010.
