The Rowdies wrapped up their second straight day of practice with a session lasting just under two hours Tuesday morning at Shimberg Fields.
Tampa Bay enters this Saturday night's home match against FC Edmonton having won six of its last seven matches, including four consecutive victories at home. The Rowdies are coming off a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico last Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium.
Head coach Ricky Hill said that he is extremely pleased with the play of the team.
“I felt overall it was a very good performance against Puerto Rico and I am delighted with the manner of how we are going about our business," said Hill. "Sometimes the players do not get enough credit for the style and the manner that they try to pass the ball and be patient to create opportunities. It is pleasing when we try to keep that going and are also scoring goals as well as winning games.”
Tampa Bay, which is undefeated in its last five league matches at home, faces FC Edmonton for the third time this season. The Rowdies posted a 1-0 victory in the 2012 home opener at Al Lang Stadium on April 14 and a 1-0 win at Edmonton on July 15. Tampa Bay has lost just once in six meetings against FC Edmonton and owns victories in four consecutive meetings in the series.
Hill said the team knows the recent success does not guarantee anything in the future.
"I think it has been a very good team effort up to this point, but we aren’t even near the end of the season," said Hill. "We are not resting on our laurels or patting ourselves on the back. We just need to move onto the next game, play in the right manner and move forward from there.”
The Rowdies host FC Edmonton this Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg, presented by Lotto. For tickets, call 813-287-1539 or click here.
