With two days left before they open an important three-match homestand, the Rowdies practiced for two hours Thursday morning at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg. Under mostly cloudy skies, the team continued preparations for its third meeting of the season against the San Antonio Scorpions this Saturday night, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang.
The first match of the homestand gives the Rowdies a chance to continue the momentum after they rallied for a 2-1 victory last Saturday night at Minnesota. The Scorpions are off to a great start in their inaugural season and are currently in first place in the league with 22 points.
Rowdies defender and captain Frankie Sanfilippo said it has been a good week of training.
"We’ve been doing well this week," said Sanfilippo. "It’s good to be back at Al Lang just because we haven’t been here for about a month. We just need to keep this winning streak going."
Sanfilippo said the team knows it will face a difficult task this Saturday night.
"San Antonio is a tough opponent and it’s going to be a good challenge for us on Saturday," said Sanfilippo. "It's the first of three straight at home and the start of an important month for us here. We just need to stay focused."
