The Rowdies held their final full practice of the week Thursday morning at Shimberg Fields after an off day on Wednesday. Tampa Bay will conclude its three-match road swing this Saturday, June 16 when it faces the Minnesota Stars FC at NSC Stadium in Blaine, Minnesota at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game can be seen live here at www.RowdiesSoccer.com.
Rowdies defender Andres Arango and forward Luke Mulholland both played for the Stars prior to joining Tampa Bay. Arango captained Minnesota during the 2010 season and Mulholland was a key part of Minnesota’s run to the NASL title last October.
“I’m obviously looking forward to going to Minnesota and playing in front of the fans and playing against some of my former teammates,” said Mulholland. “It’s always a pleasure.”
The Stars are off to a strong start this season, with Minnesota going undefeated in its first nine league matches before losing at Carolina last Saturday. The Rowdies have had some recent success against Minnesota, with two wins and three ties in the last five regular season meetings between the teams.
“They have been continuing their success from last year,” said Mulholland. “They’ve got a very good coach up there and a great fan base so I am not surprised that they are doing well this year.”
Mulholland said the match is crucial for the Rowdies as they wrap up their third consecutive road contest.
“It’s definitely important to get as many points as we can, especially in away games,” said Mulholland. “I think we need to look at this game as a must win. I definitely think it would be good momentum for us to get the win and head home on a good note.”
Tampa Bay returns home for a three-match homestand starting on Saturday, June 23 when the Rowdies host San Antonio at 7:30 p.m., presented by Jimmy John’s. For ticket information for all Rowdies home games, call 813-287-1539 or click here.
