Tampa Bay Rowdies defender Draymond Washington has suffered a right knee injury and will undergo surgery this Thursday, June 14. Washington will be sidelined for several weeks following the procedure to repair the medial meniscus tear.
Washington, a native of Potomac, Maryland, joined the Rowdies as a trialist this preseason before being signed on March 23, 2012. He has started each of the last four league matches, playing in 343 minutes.
“I am disappointed for Draymond because he has worked extremely hard and come on strong over the last month,” said head coach Ricky Hill. “We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to have him back soon.”
Washington saw action in 68 matches for George Mason University during his four-year career. He also served as team captain for Real Maryland FC in 2011, seeing action in 15 games.
The Rowdies travel to Minnesota this Saturday, June 16 for their next match before returning home for the start of a three-match homestand on Saturday, June 23 against San Antonio at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg. For ticket information, call 813-287-1539.
