FC Tampa Bay defeated St. Leo University, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Azalea Youth Soccer Club in a game that was shortened because of inclement weather.

The game was called in the 67th minute after FC Tampa Bay had scored two quick goals in the second half following a scoreless first 45 minutes.

The first half was marked by rainy weather and a slick pitch. After 10 minutes of steady rainfall, FCTB and St. Leo were finally able to settle into a soggy routine.

After the rain began to let up, midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake got a shot off that flew just over the crossbar in the 14th minute. Forward Aaron King missed another goal-scoring opportunity in the 40th minute when St. Leo’s goalie deflected his shot wide right.

With the ball skipping across the grass instead of bouncing, players had a hard time maintaining possession. Both teams battled to control the ball, which resulted in a scoreless first half.

The second half proved more fortunate for FC Tampa Bay. In the 55th minute FCTB took the lead with a goal scored by midfielder Pascal Millien. A beautiful pass from defender Frankie Sanfilippo dropped right behind the defensive line, giving Millien the opportunity to take a few touches and pull the keeper off of the goal line. St. Leo’s keeper slid hands-out but Millien swept the ball left and then sent an easy ball into the back of the net. It was Millien's fourth goal of the preseason, tops on the team.

Yoshitake added a goal in the 61st minute of the match with an unassisted tally. Shortly thereafter the referee called the match to an early end because of heavy thunderstorms rolling into the Bay Area.

FC Tampa Bay's defense posted its third shutout of the preseason, which has included a 2-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast and a 3-0 blanking of the University of Central Florida.

FC Tampa Bay concludes its 2011 preseason schedule this Sunday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the University of South Florida.
