Rodrigues Called Up to Guyana National Team
Posted on Fri, May 25, 2012

Tampa Bay Rowdies defender JP Rodrigues has officially been called up to the Guyana Senior National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Rodrigues will be available for selection for Guyana's matches at Mexico on June 8 and against Costa Rica on June 12.

"It's an honor anytime you can represent a country," said Rodrigues. "When it is a World Cup qualifier, it means a lot to the country and to me as well. I am very excited about this opportunity."

Rodrigues will be leaving Tampa Bay for team camp on Saturday, May 26 and returning to Tampa Bay on Wednesday, June 13. Rodrigues has started all eight NASL matches for the Rowdies this season and is one of just four Tampa Bay players to have seen action in all 720 minutes.

“We wish JP all the best on his trip to play with Guyana in the World Cup Qualifiers," said head coach Ricky Hill. "We hope he has a safe journey and obviously hope he does well during the games. It will be a big occasion for him and we wish him the best.”

Guyana, which is trying to qualify for its first-ever World Cup, is playing in what many consider the toughest group in the final stage of CONCACAF qualifying.
