Antoniuk Named NASL Offensive Player of the Week
Posted on Mon, May 21, 2012

Tampa Bay Rowdies forward Daniel Antoniuk has been named the North American Soccer League Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Antoniuk, making his second start of the season, led the Rowdies with two goals in Tampa Bay’s 3-2 victory at Atlanta on Saturday night. He has scored three goals in two games this season against the Silverbacks, who he played for in 1997. It marked the first two-goal performance for Tampa Bay since midfielder Keith Savage notched two goals in a 4-0 victory at Atlanta on August 6, 2011.

“It is personally a good accomplishment for me and I feel good that I was able to help our team get a much-needed win,” said Antoniuk. “We have been playing pretty well and want to try and keep the momentum going this week.”

Antoniuk leads the Rowdies in goals (4) and points (9) this season despite starting just two games and playing in 297 minutes. His four goals are tied for third in the NASL and he stands tied for fifth in the league with the nine points.

The Rowdies begin U.S. Open Cup play this Tuesday, May 22 when they travel to face Jacksonville United at Patton Park at 7:00 p.m. in the second round. With a victory, Tampa Bay would host Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium in the third round.

Tampa Bay returns to NASL action this Friday, May 25 when it hosts the defending NASL champion Minnesota Stars on Military Appreciation Night at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg.
