FC Tampa Bay continued to address its current roster with several personnel decisions on Wednesday.
FC Tampa Bay exercised its 2012 options on both forward Matt Clare and defender Takuya Yamada, bringing them back for the 2012 season.
Yamada played in 24 games with 21 starts, including starting the last 11 regular season matches and the postseason contest on defense. He scored his lone goal of the year in the 85th minute of FC Tampa Bay’s season-opening 1-0 victory over Montreal on April 9.
Clare played in six league matches and scored two goals, including one in the regular season finale victory against Ft. Lauderdale. Clare added the only goal in FCTB’s 1-0 exhibition victory over the English Premier League’s Bolton Wanderers in July at Al Lang Stadium. Clare’s agreement includes a new club option for 2013 as well.
In addition, the team declined its 2012 contract option for forward Aaron King. The team has plans to talk with King and his agent about a potential new contract in the coming days. King saw action in 27 matches with 17 starts and ranked second on the club and tied for fifth in the NASL in both goals (9) and assists (5).
Midfielder Pascal Millien is now a free agent after his contract expired with the end of the season. FC Tampa Bay began discussions with Millien about his future plans before the 2011 season started and met again with Millien today. Millien, who played in 22 games with 18 starts, tied with King with five assists and added four goals on the year.
