FC Tampa Bay midfielder Mozzi Gyorio has been named the North American Soccer League Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Gyorio scored the game-winning goal for FC Tampa Bay in last Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at NSC Minnesota, clinching the club’s first-ever playoff berth. Gyorio curled a free kick from 27 yards out around the wall, off the post and into the net for the game-winner in the 77th minute.
“It was definitely a big win for us to make the playoffs and now that we are in, we want to try and finish strong and keep the winning mentality going,” said Gyorio. “It is always an honor to win an award, but the main thing is that the team is playing well and you can never do it without your own teammates. Hopefully we keep this good form going into the playoffs.”
Gyorio has seen action in 22 games with 18 starts this season, and has scored two goals, both on free kicks. The award marks the eighth time an FC Tampa Bay player has received a weekly NASL award, second-most for any league team this season, trailing only Carolina.
FC Tampa Bay returns to action this Saturday, September 17 when it hosts NSC Minnesota at 7:00 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium on Mainsail Title Night. To purchase tickets, call 813-287-1539 or click here.
