What’s at Stake:
FC Tampa Bay hosts Puerto Rico for the second time this year and will face the Islanders twice in the next five games. Puerto Rico won 2-0 on April 17 at Al Lang Stadium in the first meeting and the two clubs played to a 1-1 draw at JRL Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on July 9.
FC Tampa Bay is in third place, just seven points behind Puerto Rico in the NASL standings. The top two seeds receive a first-round bye in the playoffs and the top six overall qualify for the postseason.
The game is the final match in a two-game homestand for FC Tampa Bay. FCTB downed the NSC Minnesota Stars 2-0 last Saturday and is currently on a four-match unbeaten streak overall and has also won four straight at home.
Notes:
FC Tampa Bay beat NSC Minnesota 2-0 at Al Lang Stadium last Saturday night. Midfielder Pascal Millien gave FCTB an early lead with a goal from 20 yards out that deflected off the crossbar and into the net in the 45th minute. Captain and defender Frankie Sanfilippo sent a shot off of a Stars defender into the net to extend the lead in the 65th minute.
Puerto Rico defeated league-leading Carolina 2-0 last Saturday. The goals came from forward David Foley in the 37th minute and midfielder Petter Villegas in the 86th minute. The victory gave the Islanders three straight wins and five wins in their last six matches.
FC Tampa Bay boasts several players among the NASL statistical leaders. Forward Mike Ambersley ranks tied for second in the league with nine goals and tied for fifth with four assists. Forward Aaron King's seven goals are fifth-best in the NASL, while midfielder Pascal Millien stands fourth in the league with five assists. Rookie goalkeeper Jeff Attinella leads all keepers with 98 saves this season.
On the season, Foley is ranked third in the league with six assists for the Islanders and teammate Jonathan Fana is ranked fourth in the NASL with eight goals. Puerto Rico goalkeeper Ray Burse is ranked fifth with 67 saves this season.
