Following its fourth straight victory at home on Saturday night, FC Tampa Bay returned to the practice field on Monday morning at Shimberg Fields. The team held a session mostly focused on conditioning and recovery, with the backups working longer than the starters from the win over NSC Minnesota.
“I think it’s been a great run for us," said captain Frankie Sanfilippo. "Three games, two on the road, one at home and we had one heck of a week. All of the guys have just been working hard, and everybody’s been fighting up and down the field and it’s been a team effort with everybody.”
FC Tampa Bay completes its two-game homestand this Saturday, August 20 at 7 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium with a matchup against one of the teams it is chasing in the standings, second-place Puerto Rico. The Islanders hold down the second position with 38 points, just seven more than third-place FC Tampa Bay. Both teams have seven games remaining in the regular season, including two head-to-head matchups. The top six teams make the postseason, with the first two earning first-round byes.
“It’s a big game for us,” said Sanfilippo. “Puerto Rico’s been on a nice little streak right now and we definitely know we have a challenge ahead of us and need to keep on winning games.”
The teams will meet this Saturday on Buick/GMC Title Night, featuring the second annual Celebrity Game at halftime. The halftime contest, presented by Buick/GMC, features local celebrities, media personalities and former Rowdies players. To see the list of confirmed participants, check out the story here.
