FCTB leads the series 2-1-0 against Montreal.
What’s at Stake:
FC Tampa Bay and Montreal meet for the final time this Wednesday, with FCTB leading the season series 2-1-0. The match is the second during a stretch of three matches in eight days for FC Tampa Bay. FCTB has lost just once since June 18, and its 4-2-1 record over that span has moved it into fourth place in the NASL standings.
FC Tampa Bay has not allowed a goal to Montreal in the first three meetings, earning two victories and one tie. The teams kicked off the 2011 season on April 9 at Al Lang Stadium, with FC Tampa Bay earning a 1-0 victory thanks to an 85th minute goal from Takuya Yamada. Two weeks later, the clubs played to a 0-0 draw at Saputo Stadium.
In the most recent meeting on May 21, FC Tampa Bay notched a 3-0 shutout, with goals from Warren Ukah, Mike Ambersley and Tsuyoshi Yoshitake. FCTB goalkeeper Daryl Sattler earned the first two shutouts before suffering a season-ending knee injury on April 30 against Atlanta, while rookie Jeff Attinella posted his first career shutout on May 21.
Notes:
FC Tampa Bay routed Atlanta 4-0 Saturday night at Atlanta Silverbacks Park behind two goals from NASL Offensive Player of the Week midfielder Keith Savage, as well as goals from Ambersley and forward Matt Clare.
The Montreal Impact fell 3-1 at Saputo Stadium on Saturday to the NSC Minnesota Stars, ending a six-game unbeaten streak at home. Midfielder Ian Westlake scored the only Impact goal of the game in the 23rd minute.
Quoting Head Coach Ricky Hill
"I am expecting a very difficult game on Wednesday night, as I am sure the players are too. I am hoping the players can maintain the momentum that they have created in recent weeks and the manner of how we have played as a cohesive unit."
