Frimpong, who hails from Accra, Ghana, was selected by the Chicago Fire in the first round with the ninth overall pick of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. Frimpong finished his college career at the University of Delaware and became the first Blue Hen player to be selected in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Draft.

Last season, Frimpong helped lead Delaware to a 13-6-4 record, a first-ever Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament where the Hens knocked off Virginia in the first round for their first-ever NCAA victory.

Among the honors Frimpong received last season were second team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American, first team NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region, Herrmann Trophy (National Player of the Year) final 15 semifinalist, CAA Player of the Year and ECAC All-East first team. He ranked among the CAA leaders in scoring, tallying 29 points on 12 goals and five assists in 2011. Overall, he tallied 15 goals during his two-year career with the Blue Hens.
