John Paul “JP” Rodrigues is a Tampa native and Guyana National Team defender who played for Miami FC from 2006 to 2010. He joined Tampa Bay prior to the 2011 season.
Rodrigues finished the 2010 season ranked third at Miami FC for most minutes played and tied for second most games played, with over 5,500 minutes in 76 matches. Rodrigues also plays for the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), where he has played since 2008. He helped lead the Wave to back-to-back league titles in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Rodrigues also played for D.C. United (MLS) on loan.
Rodrigues has represented Guyana as part of the National Team and has earned 19 caps, including qualifying matches for both the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. He was also part of the squad that qualified for the final round of the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup.
Rodrigues played college soccer at Belmont University from 2002 to 2005, and earned the honor of Atlantic Sun Conference Defender of the Year in 2005.
Rodrigues is a Tampa native who attended Land O’ Lakes High School. He also was a ballboy for the Tampa Bay Mutiny as a youngster.
Started 23 regular season and 4 post-season matches... Played 2,375 total minutes... Left on May 26 to represent Guyana National Team in World Cup Qualifiers and played full 90 minutes in matches at Mexico and against Costa Rica.
Started in 22 games for Tampa Bay… Underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on June 7 and missed three matches… Returned at Ft. Lauderdale (6/29)... Played in 1,956 minutes, sixth-most on the team... Was selected in World Cup Qualifiers for Guyana, but did not play because of injury.
